JOE STAPLEFORD AND 5 DOG ELECTRIC
SEPTEMBER 4, 2015
Jen's Editing Note: Joe Stapleford and his company 5 Dog Electric were one of the first organizations to join our Estrella Mountain Residents® charity program as a sponsor.
I first met Joe at an Estrella Business Group meeting and was impressed with all the accolades for his business from others in the room. His clever dog treats wrapped in his company logo and story behind the name of his company make him a great candidate for this week's #FridayFeature. THANK YOU, Joe, for your time in answering our Q&A! |
Q. Please tell me about you. How long have you been in Estrella and where did you move from?
A. Originally from a small town in Northern Illinois. I completed a 5 year electrical apprenticeship in 2003. In 2004, I came to Arizona and met my partner Jacqui, who came here from Scotland in 2001. We have lived in Estrella Mountain Ranch for 3 years.

Q. I know you support pet adoption. Can you tell me about your dogs and how you found them?
A. Our dogs are truly our children. Jacqui had a dog, Haggis, when I met her and we then adopted Maxine from a rescue. They were soon joined by Molly, our boxer, who is our lil princess. After losing Haggis, we got Taggart, another Akita, (as you can tell all male dogs per Jacqui must have Scottish names!). As big supporters of dog rescue, we fostered a 12-year-old Akita mix called Joe - or as he soon became known 4-legged Joe. Joe had been found stray and it was discovered he had lung cancer. On Thanksgiving Day, we sadly had to help Joe to the bridge. Having caught the foster bug, we then rescued Duke - another Akita mix who we actually drove to California to rescue. Indeed we saved him the day before he was scheduled for euthanasia. Duke had been adopted from the shelter as a puppy then returned 10 years later for being "too old". Duke has medical needs and we didn't think he would live long, but that was 6 months ago and he is thriving! Good food, a comfortable bed and lots of love has turned him around. We are big proponents of adoption... Don't shop... If you can't adopt... foster. If you can't foster... donate!

Q. Can you please tell me about your business? What is your commitment to your customers?
A. As a residential electrician, I can do anything from adding receptacles to remodels. I strive to do provide a quality service with the utmost courtesy. I show up on time and do the job for the price quoted to the customer. I take pride in my work and ensure it's done to highest standards.

Q. Can you give us three quick tips about wiring a home?
A. GFI... ground fault interrupter...very important. TIP: if receptacle on front porch or back porch is not working, check GFI in your garage. If one of your bathroom receptacles isn't working, check the GFI in other bathrooms. Exercise your breakers! Living in the desert it's dusty. Dust buildup can prevent your breaker from tripping. Tripping is the safety measure to prevent wires from over heating thus causing fires. Once a year, flip every breaker off then on to lower the risk of dust build up. |
Q. What is one thing you'd like to see in Estrella over the next 10 years?
A. We love living in EMR. It's a beautiful location with an extremely friendly group of people. Whilst I understand why people wish to live here - I sometimes wish we could keep EMR a secret.

Q. What do you like to do in your spare time?
A. I'm always working or thinking about my next project. Jacqui and I, when weather permits, love to take our dogs around the lakes. As Jacqui is from Scotland, I enjoy meeting her friends and family from around the world.
