DAVE HARDY - RESIDENT SOLAR SPECIALIST
ORIGINALLY POSTED SEPTEMBER 18, 2015
Jen's Editing Note: When West Valley Families - Estrella started up the #EstrellaGives charity program two years ago, Dave Hardy was the first resident to sign up. And he's been giving ever since.
Dave Hardy is a resident solar specialist and the exclusive sponsor of our website calendar - a comprehensive view of all events in the west Valley. I got to know more about him and his company through the Estrella Business Group and thought he'd be a great focus for our #FridayFeature. Here's a look back to September 2015. As a long time fan of solar energy, I hope you enjoy Dave's feature as much as I have! THANKS FOR THE SUPPORT DAVE! Watch our Facebook page for more features all week long! |
Q. Tell me about you and your family.
A. I grew up in Seattle and Kim grew up in Orange County. Two of our children are in college and the third is a professional baseball player.

Q. When did you move to Estrella and how did you decide this would be your new home?
A. We moved here from Seattle 4 years ago. I have been coming here for spring training for 30 years and was very comfortable with the west valley. Six years ago Kim and I were visiting for spring training and came to a Mariner game at the then brand new Goodyear ballpark. We heard people around us talking about living "up the hill", and had to ask where that was! We liked it, a quick drive up to Estrella! The next year, during spring training, we stayed at a rental home in Estrella and loved it. We could see that it was a perfect fit for what we were both looking for. We had grown tired of the Seattle gray and horrid traffic. There is no shortage of CA & NW people here in Estrella!

Q. Please tell me more about your business. How did you decide to get into the solar industry?
A. Once we moved here and installed solar on our own home, I had a desire to work in the industry. I knew it would be interesting and fun, and I was right. It’s all about helping people save money and giving them some control over their future electric bills.

Q. What should established solar residents know about the changes in the industry as far as technology and fees?
A. In August, the Arizona Corporation Commission (ACC) decided to delay their decision on APS’s request to increase the current solar tax. If an increase is eventually granted, it’s most likely that established solar residents who already pay a solar tax, as well as residents in the process of installing solar will be grandfathered in at the current rate. |
Q. What should the prospective buyer know about "going solar"?
A. A residential solar system reduces the homeowner's annual APS bill by 20-50%, and provides a stable cost for 20-30 years. Plus, it’s affordable. Whether you opt to purchase or lease, with no money down, the savings are significant.

Q. What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
A. I enjoy hiking, mountain biking, tennis, golf, roasting espresso coffee beans, and of course, watching baseball.

Q. You are involved in the Estrella Business Group. Please tell me about that and any other organizations you support.
A. EBG is made up of Estrella residents who operate a business serving the Estrella and surrounding community. We meet once a month and focus on promoting our businesses and supporting local events.

Q. What do you hope to see in Estrella over the next 10 years?
A. I would like to see Estrella continue to develop and grow into the planned community that we all envisioned when we moved here. Every week, I visit dozens of cities and communities in the valley, and it always feels good to come home each day to Estrella. I would like to keep it that way.
