Through our charity program, I was able to meet Carrie and Matt Van Dyke. We met at the Operation Christmas Child packing party at the Starpointe Residents Club. Their business, Just Awesome Home Care Services, is derived from their sons' first names... Johnathan, Adrian, and Christopher. Honesty, integrity, and industry knowledge are at the center of who we are. We treat our client’s homes as our own and maintain them as such. |

Q. Where are you from and how long have you been here?
A. We are both from the Midwest (Michigan and Wisconsin). We met in Arizona. Matt (Michigan) has been in Arizona for 13 years and I (Wisconsin) have been in Arizona for 12 years.

Q. How did you decide to move to Estrella?
A. Ironically enough, when I moved to the valley I worked for a new home builder who was building homes in EMR. Since a site visit to the community in 2004, the community caught my eye. A few years later I worked for a commercial developer who had parcels in Estrella. The community kept coming up in my work which led to frequent visits to Estrella. When the timing was right, and we found a floorplan/home we loved, we jumped at the opportunity to move.
Matt and I lived down the hill in Goodyear and finally found a home/floorplan we loved and our kids fell in love with the community. After one visit to Estrella our oldest commented that none of the other homes or communities could compare to Estrella. The kids could not stop talking about the community, amenities, and overall feel of the community. I joke that Matt had the kids bombard me to convince me to move.

Q. Can you tell me a little about your family?
A. We have three sons, Johnathan (17), Christopher (14), and Adrian (4). Matt and I were married in 10/2010. We have a boxer, mini-schnauzer and recently rescued two teacup Yorkies. We love to travel and take the boys with us every chance we get. We both love spending time with our family. |

Q. You have a home watch company... can you give us some information about it and how you chose to get into the business?
A. Matt and I have a unique background and perhaps a different perspective when it comes to homes. I have been in construction for 17 years and Matt was a HVAC installer who also worked in new home construction for 15 years. Because of our experience we cannot look at a home as just a home. Our experience has also allowed us to be up-to-date and knowledgeable when it comes to the building science of a home. We know how a home should function, operate, best practices, how to properly maintain and care for a home when you are not there. We are able to quickly identify concerns and properly rectify them. There are things that should be done to ensure the building components will not react adversely. We saw a void in the market for this service coming from the new home construction/building science perspective. We want to help homeowners protect their asset long term. Building science is ever changing and with that comes things that need to be done to ensure there are not issues later on. The combination of our knowledge of construction, building science, and customer service skills as well as a genuine desire to help our clients; we started Just Awesome Care Home Services.

Q. What is your recommendation to residents leaving for extended periods of time?
A. It is important to properly climatize your home. We do not recommend turning the heat or air conditioning off. Without proper temperature setting the internal components of your home will start to adversely respond to the environment they are in. Water is a large component and fear our clients have. We recommend shutting off the water to the home while you are away, however, we run/test this during our inspections to ensure there are no issues. While we recommend inspections at least twice a month; at the bare minimum inspections should be conducted once a month. If something is wrong, not identified or addressed, it does not take long for it to become a bigger issue. Upon completion of our inspections, our clients receive an inspection report and any corresponding photos or information. |
Q. What do you like to do in your free time?
A. Matt enjoys playing softball. I am currently in school. I also love to read. We love to travel and take the boys with us every chance we get. We both love spending time with our family.

Q. What is one thing you would like to see in Goodyear over the next 5-10 years?
A. I would like to see more shopping areas. I believe there are plans for more stores off of McDowell. We truly enjoy what we have. I cannot say there is one specific thing we would like to see come to Goodyear. It has been great to see where Goodyear was 12 years ago and where it is today. It will just take time but I think Goodyear is going to continue to grow in both residential and commercial construction.
